Also Twisted

More Burned Out Buildings and What I see through the lense.

What amazes me about the series of photos of the burned out building is the sculpture created by the fire.
It is almost as if the fire along with other forces were at work creating at the same time as they were destroying. The end result, of course, is in the eye of the beholder.

Alum Rising

Posted on January 14th, 2009 | Permalink | 3 Comments

Seeing this as the picture was being taken, the thought occurred to me, what if it could come to life on its own. What if it was trying to unfold and rise into the glorious formation it once possessed. But it is just aluminum. Aluminum rising, perhaps.

Do you see anything when you see it? Please post a comment.

Was in Black and White Photography

What was once something has become something new, beautiful if see it can you.

On conferring with a fellow artist, the thought occurred, what would my photos look like in black and white.
Thus the black and white abstract photo you see above. Now, I need your help. What one word does this evoke. What do you see, what do you think, what do you feel? Please limit it to just one word.

Think of this as a Rorschach test. However, to make this work, it would help to have others contribute. Please ask others what they see and have them contribute too.

Thanks for your support.

So Spooled

Posted on January 6th, 2009 | Permalink | 1 Comment

Some times we get so wound up in life, we forget to enjoy our life. Unspool your self for just one day and see what it does for you and your friends and colleagues. When someone asks you how your doing, look at them with a curious smile and an almost thought provoked response, “You know, now that I am thinking about that, actually I am doing fantastic, but I am getting better.”

Perhaps by unspooling, you may just find a thing of beauty as with this metal. To anyone else, its value was just that of scrap metal. Yet, within it was a psychedelic beauty that resulted from being unspooled.

Cheers from the Jonathan Steele Works

PS. What do you see when you look into this abstract photo? Please share your one word thought!Unwound what some only see as scrap and there is a beauty to be found.

Rise Above

Posted on January 2nd, 2009 | Permalink | Comments Disabled

This picture got me to thinking of the adversities we face day by day. They can corrode or deteriorate our spirit, that force that actuates our mind. They can be destructive if we let them. However, if we, like this piece of roofing tin from a burned out building, rise above the adversity, it can do no harm. Just as the steel that avoided the rust by being above it, we too can succeed in life. Succeed regardless of what ever crash and burn we may experience.

This is true, only if we choose to rise above those adversities.

What do you think? What do you see? Share your one word comment on what you see.The steel becoming the beautiful blue in the photo did so because it was able to ries above the rust.

The Abstract Photo Art of
Jonathan Steele

Showing in February @ Anthology New & Used Books
Artists Reception first Friday February 6, 2009
Come, See, Be a Part of the Art

You are invited, on viewing, to write your one word description of the art you will see. Think of this as a Rorschach in Technicolor on steroids psyche evaluation of sorts.

Then your comment will be compiled into a word cloud that will accompany the artwork, making it a collaboration between you and me. Oh yes, credit will be given where credit is due.

Can’t get out? View and submit your comment on the web at Scranthology.com/ starting in February.

So, if you want to be a part of Scranton art history, then come, see and be a part of the art.

Please note: If you or anyone you know personally knows anyone at The Office of Dunder Mifflin, please encourage them to come to the Abstractions artworks show. It would be an honor to have them attend.

Anthology is in the loft of Marquis Art and Frame and Outrageous at 515 Center Street, Scranton, PA.

Where the heck is 515 Center Street?

Center Street is an alley behind Molly Brannigan’s, Coney Island Texas Weiners, and the Hobby Shop on Lackawanna Avenue.

You can also find us directly down the alley from the front door of the Hilton on Adams Avenue.

Or you can turn left at the alley next to Vida Tapas Bar on Washington Ave.

You can also turn down the alley next to Michael’s Luxury Eyewear and Northern Light Cafe.

From Interstate 81, take the Central Scranton Expressway exit straight onto Spruce Street, past the courthouse, left at the light onto North Washington Avenue, next left on Center Street before you reach Lackawanna Avenue. Ta-daa!

Note: there are not many parking lots, let alone free parking spots. Parking is easiest in the Casey Parking Garage on the corner of Lackawanna Ave and Adams Ave, in front of our building.

A Twisted Relationship

Posted on December 18th, 2008 | Permalink | 1 Comment

Have you ever known two people who were, well, twisted, together and just right for each other? Sometimes we find that person who is right for us and we for them. In the case of this building fire, the ensuing sculpture was created and two pieces that otherwise would not be together. Now they just fit.

Cheers.

Hey, if you were to describe this using just one word, what would it be, what do you see?

Come on, share a thought.
